We are excited to present an exceptional numismatic treasure in our upcoming E-Auction 5: Lot 89
Ghorid Gold Heavy Dinar of Mu’izz al-Din Muhammad (AH 601) This extraordinary gold heavy dinar, weighing 22.30 grams and measuring 35 millimeters in diameter, was minted in Baldat Ghazna (modern-day Ghazni, Afghanistan) during the year AH 601 (1204-1205 AD). Classified as Album 1759, this posthumous issue features inscriptions exclusively citing Muizz al-Din Muhammad bin Sam, a standard practice for coins struck between AH 599 and 605.
Mu’izz al-Din Muhammad, also known as Muhammad of Ghor, was a prominent ruler of the Ghorid dynasty, reigning from 1171 until his assassination in 1206.
Following his death, Taj al-Din Yildiz assumed power but continued to issue coinage in Mu’izz al-Din’s name until late AH 605, when he introduced his own name on the currency.
