Parthian Empire. Phriapatios. 185-170 B.C. AE Chalkous (4.41g/ 17mm). Hekatompylos. Head of Phriapatios left, wearing bashlyk / Horse prancing right. Sellwood 8.2 (Mithradates I); Shore 22. Rare. A lovely example. Brown patina. Very fine.
This type was long thought to be an issue of Mithradates I, but has since been attributed to his father, Phriapatios. Struck in the name of Phriapatios’ uncle, Arsaces I, the first king of Parthia.
