Group of Four Ancient Gaming Dice
Description
A collection of four ancient gaming dice, each carved in cuboid form with circular ring-and-dot motifs or simple incised pips marking the values. The dice vary in size and material: one in pale terracotta, one in limestone, one in dark stone, and one in bone. Gaming dice such as these were popular across the Roman Empire and throughout the Medieval world, used both for leisure and divinatory purposes. Roman to Medieval period, ca. 1st – 10th century AD.
